Namibia: Where the Milky Way shines
During our readers' trip in June 2020, Namibia spoils us with a dark night sky and what is probably the most impressive part of the southern Milky Way. In addition to the intensive astronomical observation nights and the visit to the world's largest Cherenkov telescope, interesting tours and an extension to the Etosha National Park are offered.
Far away from any light pollution you can see a unique starry sky in Namibia. The enormous brilliance of the southern Milky Way and its famous celestial objects impress every star lover. The center of the Milky Way is high in the evening sky, the two Magellanic Clouds, distant galaxies, fantastic globular clusters, the Southern Cross and the Eta Carinae Nebula are also present. Since the nights in south-western Africa are long during the European summer, almost the entire southern starry sky can be observed. Jan Hattenbach, science journalist, physicist and hobby astronomer, will be in charge of this journey with many celestial tours - with and without a telescope - and bring the endless universe closer to both the layman and the advanced.
