Grossness out of selfishness
Humanity has produced vaccines against the coronavirus pandemic at record speed. Now it's time to distribute the vaccine correctly.
The feat of developing, testing and producing by the millions an entire arsenal of vaccines against the disease Covid-19 in an incredibly short period of time is a credit to the current level of biological science and medical technology. As pathetic as it may sound, it fills me with pride to belong to an intelligent species that knows how to react so quick-wittedly to a life-threatening attack.
Of course, the longer the fight against the pandemic lasts, more and more feelings such as worry, impatience, even shame are mixed in with the comfort. In countries like the US and Brazil, which have taken the disease too lightly for too long, the death toll has passed half a million. The Indian subcontinent has suffered a severe relapse, which has the whole world worried about a new mutant virus. In Africa, the data situation hardly allows reliable estimates, but they are far from having an effective strategy against Covid-19.
Global statistics paint an ugly picture of extreme differences…
